counselling & psychotherapy
What are Counselling and Psychotherapy?
Counselling and psychotherapy are broad terms which cover a range of "talking" therapies. They are delivered by trained professionals who work with people to help them bring about effective change or enhance their well-being.
What can I expect during a counselling session?
The objective is to understand what has brought you to therapy, look at the issues and identify the right course of action for you. This might include talking about your ways of thinking, your relationships, your feelings, patterns of behaviour, and also past and present life events.
Why do people choose to have therapy?
Counselling can help people with following:-
- addictions
- all types of abuse
- anxiety, stress and depression
- difficulties and distress with living
- health problems and pain management
- loss and bereavement
- post traumatic stress
- problems with relationships
- self-esteem and self-confidence issues
- trauma
- work related issues and life changing events
Why would a physiotherapy clinic offer counselling?
Psychological problems can in some cases have a significant bearing on our physical well-being. It is not uncommon to see people suffering from chronic pain whose symptoms are being exacerbated by psychological problems. Furthermore, there are those who may have suffered a trauma or accident and who will often exhibit fear avoidance behaviour, which can in itself cause physical problems, such as pain and stiffness, lack of mobility or loss of strength.
